Record-breaking heat wave grips western United States

A record early heat wave striking the western United States on Friday is a one-in-500-year event and almost certainly the result of human-caused climate change, experts say. The heat has been toppling records this week and is set to continue into the weekend across western cities while expanding eastward. Four locations in the desert area near the California-Arizona border registered 44.4 degrees Celsius on Friday, a US national record for March. The readings were recorded near Yuma and Martinez Lake in Arizona, and around Winterhaven and Ogilby in California. Young Indian man caught disguised as senior citizen trying to board Canadian flight

On June 18, 2024, a dramatic scene unfolded at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) as India’s Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) detained Guru Sewak Singh for attempting to board an Air Canada flight using the passport of a 67-year-old man named Rashvindar Singh Sahota. This  raised suspicion due to his peculiar appearance. Officials quickly noted inconsistencies between his youthful skin texture and the aged persona he was trying to portray, enhanced by dyed white hair and glasses. Upon closer inspection and questioning, Singh was compelled to reveal his true identity after officials insisted on verifying his actual passport. Following this revelation, Delhi Police took him into custody for further investigation. Now Toronto contacted Air Canada for a comment on the incident but did not receive a response by the time of publication. Previously, a roof collapsed under heavy rainfall and winds at the main airport in India's capital New Delhi on June 28, killing one person and causing authorities to cancel flights from one terminal, officials and media said. A portion of the canopy at the departures area of Delhi airport's terminal 1 collapsed at 5 a.m. (2330 GMT), a statement from the airport posted on the social media site X said.

US, Philippines kick off joint military drills in South China Sea with 16,000 troops

Some 16,000 US and Philippine troops kicked off the annual joint military drills on Monday in the West Philippine Sea (WPS), local media reported. WPS is the official designation by Philippines to the parts of the South China Sea that are included in the country's exclusive economic zone. The 19-day exercises, dubbed "Balikatan 2024," will involve around 5,000 Philippine and 11,000 US troops, making it the largest joint military drills between the two allies conducted in decades, local English daily Manila Times reported citing the military.
