Indian professor's robot dog claim at AI summit sparks uproar

An Indian professor has falsely suggested a Chinese-made robot dog displayed at a major AI summit was developed by her university, prompting backlash in a situation that politicians derided as "embarrassing" on Wednesday. The silver mechanical dog — a model sold by the Chinese startup Unitree — appeared at a booth run by the private Galgotias University at this week's AI Impact Summit in New Delhi. Following online uproar over the professor's claim in a televised interview, Galgotias said that while it did not build the machine, "what we are building are minds that will soon design, engineer, and manufacture such technologies". pic.twitter.com/cgBbhld876 — Galgotias University (@GalgotiasGU) February 17, 2026 In a statement posted on social media platform X, the university said: "Let us be clear -- Galgotias has not built this robodog, neither have we claimed." The "recently acquired" Unitree robodog is a "classroom in motion" a...

Pakistan, seven other countries condemn Israel's designation of West Bank as ‘state land’

Foreign ministers of Pakistan, Egypt, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar have jointly condemned Israel's decision to designate lands in the occupied West Bank as so-called "state land" and approve procedures for the registration and settlement of land ownership across extensive areas of the occupied West Bank In a joint statement issued on Tuesday, the ministers said the move "constitutes a grave escalation aimed at accelerating illegal settlement activity, land confiscation, entrenching Israeli control, and applying unlawful Israeli sovereignty over the Occupied Palestinian Territory and undermining the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people." 🔊PR No.4️⃣4️⃣/2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣6️⃣ Joint Statement by the Foreign Ministers of Pakistan, Egypt, Jordan UAE, Indonesia, Türkiye , Saudi Arabia, Qatar Condemning Israel’s Illegal Decision of Designation and Occupation of Occupied West Bank as State Land and Illegal Settlement Activity 🔗⬇️… pic.twitter.com/af57kG6Gu4 — Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Pakistan (@ForeignOfficePk) February 17, 2026 The ministers stated that the measures represent "a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention, as well as a violation of relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, foremost among them Resolution 2334." The resolution, adopted in 2016, declared that Israel’s settlement activity in Palestinian territories occupied since 1967 has no legal validity and constitutes a violation of international law. The ministers further warned that the step "reflects an attempt to impose a new legal and administrative reality designed to consolidate control over the occupied land." This, the statement said, undermines the two-state solution, erodes the prospects for the establishment of an independent and viable Palestinian state, and jeopardises the attainment of a just and comprehensive peace in the region. The ministers also stressed that such policies constitute escalation that will further heighten tensions and instability in the occupied territory and the broader region. The ministers have called upon the international community to assume its responsibilities, taking clear and decisive steps to halt these violations, ensuring respect for international law, and safeguarding the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people. Foremost among these rights, the statement said, is the Palestinians' right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent and sovereign state on the lines of 4 June 1967, with East Jerusalem as the capital.

More than 200,000 people are estimated to be working in giant illegal cobalt mines in the giant central African country. Local authorities said the bridge collapsed at the Kalando mine, about 42 kilometres (26 miles) southeast of the Lualaba provincial capital, Kolwezi. "Despite a formal ban on access to the site because of the heavy rain and the risk of a landslide, wildcat miners forced their way into the quarry," said Mayonde. He said ...
