Fact check: Viral video of Dubai plane crash near Tel Aviv’s airport is AI-generated

Multiple accounts on social media platform X were sharing a video since Monday, allegedly showing a Dubai Airbus A380 plane crash in a residential area near Tel Aviv’s airport due to being attacked by Iranian missiles. However, the video is AI-generated and no such incident occurred. The ongoing conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran began on February 28, after joint US-Israeli strikes targeted Iranian military, nuclear, and leadership sites. In response, Iran launched hundreds of missiles and drones not only toward Israel but also towards US military bases and allied infrastructure across the Middle East, significantly widening the scope of the conflict. Iran’s retaliation has included attacks on Gulf countries and strategic energy infrastructure, including ports and oil facilities, leading to regional instability and disruption of global energy supplies, consequently evolving into a broader regional crisis, with Gulf states increasingly affected due to their hosting...

The statement further reiterated Pakistan's "unwavering and principled support" for the “just cause of the Palestinian people, including their inalienable right to self-determination, and for the establishment of an independent, sovereign, viable and contiguous State of Palestine, based on the pre-June 1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.” Read: Israel continues to bar Muslims from Friday prayers at Al-Aqsa Mosque for 4th straight week Besides Pakistan, multiple Muslim countries also condemned the incident. Furthermore, in an official statement, the Turkish Foreign Ministry stated that it strongly condemned "the raid on Al-Aqsa Mosque carried out by an Israeli minister." It added that "the violations and provocations by the Netanyahu government targeting the historical and legal status of Al-Aqsa Mosque, a sacred site exclusively for Muslims, are unacceptable." The statement concluded with the ministry stating that "ensuring the opening of Al-Aqsa Mosque for Muslim worship and the removal of all restrictions preventing freedom of worship at holy sites in East Jerusalem is a shared responsibility of the international community." A joint statement by the foreign ministers of the Muslim nations called on Israel, as the occupying power, to immediately cease the closure of the gates of Al-Aqsa Mosque, remove access restrictions to the Old City of Jerusalem, and refrain from obstructing Muslim worshippers' access to the mosque.

At least 32 miners dead after bridge fails at cobalt site in southeast DR Congo

A bridge collapsed at a cobalt mine in southeast Democratic Republic of Congo killing at least 32 wildcat miners, a regional government official said Sunday. The bridge came down Saturday onto a flooded zone at the mine in Lualaba province, Roy Kaumba Mayonde, the provincial interior minister, told reporters. He said 32 bodies had been recovered and more were being searched for. The DRC produces more than 70 percent of the world supply of cobalt, which is essential for batteries used in electric cars, many laptop computers and mobile phones. More than 200,000 people are estimated to be working in giant illegal cobalt mines in the giant central African country. Local authorities said the bridge collapsed at the Kalando mine, about 42 kilometres (26 miles) southeast of the Lualaba provincial capital, Kolwezi. "Despite a formal ban on access to the site because of the heavy rain and the risk of a landslide, wildcat miners forced their way into the quarry," said Mayonde. He said ...

Indian devotees splurge on jets, gold idols as Hindu temple opens

The private jet parking lots at airports near the Indian city of Ayodhya are full and the shops have run out of gold-plated idols, as wealthy devotees prepare for the invite-only opening ceremony of one of Hinduism's holiest temples. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Asia's richest man Mukesh Ambani are among the 8,000 or so attendees at Monday's inauguration event for the Ram Temple, which devotees believe is built on the birthplace of Lord Ram, a sacred Hindu deity. The construction of the temple, which began after the Supreme Court awarded the site to Hindus in 2019 more than two decades after a Hindu mob razed a mosque there, triggering deadly riots, fulfils a key campaign promise of Modi and his Hindu nationalist party.
