Iran to hold funeral for slain supreme leader on July 4-9

Iran will hold funeral procedures for the country's slain Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei between July 4 and July 9, Iranian state media reported on Saturday. The program will include a farewell ceremony in the capital Tehran on July 4-5. Then, funeral ceremonies will be held in Tehran on July 6 and in Qom on July 7. Khamenei was killed in US-Israeli strikes that began against Iran on February 28. The attacks have also killed several senior Iranian military commanders and government officials. Military transport plane crashes in India, casualties unknown

An Indian military transport plane crashed on Saturday while landing at an air force station in the country’s remote northeast, the military said in a statement. The Russian-made Antonov An-32 “met with an accident today while landing at Jorhat,” a city in Assam state, the air force said. The statement gave no details of casualties and did not say how many people were on board at the time. “A court of inquiry is being constituted to ascertain the cause of the accident,” it said. News channel NDTV broadcast images of the crash site, showing a thick black plume of smoke and the aircraft apparently broken into pieces. The An-32, a twin-engine turboprop, is specially designed to perform well at high altitudes and in extreme climates. The last major crash involving the plane occurred in 2019 in Arunachal Pradesh state, near the border with China, when 13 people were killed.

A woman who sought nearly $5,000 in damages after being bitten by a dog on Christmas Eve has had her claim dismissed, after a British Columbia tribunal ruled the incident amounted to an accident — and that “every dog is entitled to one bite.” Ying Shen was bitten on the hand by a mini Australian Shepherd named Juliet as she stepped out of an elevator in her apartment building in Vancouver on 24 December 2022. The dog, which was leashed and accompanied by neighbour Jeffrey Dale Polo, bit Shen as the two passed each other in the corridor. According to the B.C. Civil Resolution Tribunal’s decision, Polo apologised, saying Juliet was “usually well behaved.” Shen sought medical attention that night at St. Paul’s Hospital, where she was treated for a superficial abrasion and given a tetanus shot.
